Safeguarding the natural beauty of Sherwood Pines

To protect the woodland, campfires, fire pits and burning wood in BBQs or wood burners are not permitted across the site. This helps preserve the forest and protect local wildlife.

About Sherwood Pines Campsite

A brief history of Sherwood Pines

Sherwood Pines has long been part of the historic Sherwood Forest landscape, an area closely associated with centuries of woodland management, recreation, and folklore. Originally managed primarily for timber production, the forest gradually evolved into a public leisure destination during the late 20th century, with walking trails, cycling routes, and family facilities attracting visitors year-round.

A significant new chapter began in 2020 with the development of a dedicated campsite within Sherwood Pines. This marked a shift toward encouraging longer stays and deeper engagement with the natural environment, allowing visitors to experience the forest beyond day trips.

Sustainable tourism

In 2022, management of the campsite entered a new phase when Sherwood Pines Camping Ltd, in partnership with Forestry England, took over its operation. This transition introduced a renewed vision focused on “sustainable woodland stays,” blending low-impact tourism with conservation principles.

Our aim is to create a site that not only provides comfortable outdoor accommodation but also supports biodiversity, responsible forestry, and environmental education—ensuring Sherwood Pines continues to thrive as both a natural habitat and a place for people and their pets to connect with the forest.
