Several bug huts have been hand crafted by our staff and placed around our campsite, can you find them all?
Bug huts provide a nesting opportunity and hibernation place for many beneficial insects, which increases insect diversity in the area, and helps to naturally restart important ecosystem services like soil formation, pollination and nutrient recycling.
You can collect a fact sheet from reception and go on a bug hunt of your own. Happy bug hunting campers!.

British Cycling and Forestry England have teamed up to offer free, women-only group cycle rides for all abilities in the nation’s forests. Every group ride is led by a qualified Breeze into the Forest Champion who will organise everything and make sure everyone stays safe. Come along to ride, chat and of course enjoy some tea and cake from the onsite café afterwards.

Before it became the forest you know today, Sherwood Pines was part of the training ground for soldiers from Clipstone Camp during the First World War. Remnants of their practice trenches can still be seen in the woodland.
To commemorate this history, we have recreated one of the trenches for visitors to explore, offering a glimpse into the harsh conditions soldiers endured, alongside displays sharing the stories of local people who fought in the 1914–18 war.

King John’s Castle play area at Sherwood Pines Visitor Centre is now open! Designed by Earth Wrights, it’s built for children and young adults of all abilities to play together.
Features include a wheelchair-accessible ramp and clatter bridge, a castle tower with climbing tree, sensory-friendly ground-level areas (like a den, tunnel, kitchen, and dungeon), plus a tube slide, balance trail, and trebuchet swing. There’s something for everyone—however they like to play!

Have you tried Disc Golf at Sherwood Pines?
Take on our 9-hole course and aim for the targets in as few throws as possible. Perfect for beginners and seasoned players alike, it’s a fun way to enjoy the forest with friends and family. Find it by the Visitor Centre and discover your new favourite sport.

Fun activities for ages 4–11 to explore local forests and learn about sustainable management for people, wildlife, and timber.
Use them in any Forestry England woodland, but for those participating in Children's University, complete the full sheet to earn two learning hours in your passport.

Enjoy our fun, navigational challenge at Sherwood Pines by following the easy to read map and finding twelve Gruffalo markers hidden in the deep, dark wood.
Before you begin, head to the Visitor Centre to pick up a Gruffalo orienteering leaflet with a certificate and map for just £2.50.

Orienteering is both an exciting and challenging outdoor sport that exercises both the body and mind, and it is also a great family activity that will entertain everyone for hours. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on an orienteering map.
Here at Sherwood Pines it doesn't matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog on a course that is planned to suit you.

We've got three great walking trails to help you and all the family discover Sherwood Pines including the Ranger's trail which explores the outer areas and some of the historic features of this fascinating forest. The trails are all way-marked so no map is required!

Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They're open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
They take place in pleasant forest surroundings and people of every ability are encouraged to take part. From those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to veterans; everyone is welcome.

For over 30 years White Post Farm have been entertaining millions of children and adults, giving them the chance to get up close to a wide variety of friendly animals! With a range of seasonal events throughout the year, and exciting animal experiences, there is something for all ages!
With lots to do in both their indoor and outdoor spaces such as meeting the Crocodiles in Reptiles of the World or feeding the animals along the field walk, you can fill your day with fun, come rain or shine!

Set beside King’s Mill Reservoir, Adventures offers outdoor fun for all ages. Take on the high ropes, bounce through the Net Park, brave The Drop, or race along the 100m zip line. On the water, hire pedalos, paddleboards or kayaks, or bring your own. With stunning views and family-friendly fun, it’s the perfect summer escape.
