Bug huts provide a nesting opportunity and hibernation place for many beneficial insects, which increases insect diversity in the area, and helps to naturally restart important ecosystem services like soil formation, pollination and nutrient recycling.
You can collect a fact sheet from reception and go on a bug hunt of your own. Happy bug hunting campers!

Orienteering at Sherwood Pines
The aim is to navigate between control points marked on an orienteering map. It doesn't matter how young, old or fit, we have courses to suit beginners and experts alike. Orienteering is both an exciting and challenging outdoor sport that exercises both the body and mind, and it is also a great family activity that will entertain everyone as you can run, walk or jog on a course that is planned to suit you.
If you are a little more competitive, complete the course in the quickest time choosing your own best route either on your own or as part of an organised competition.
The new play area at Sherwood Pines visitor centre, King John’s Castle, is now open for visitors to enjoy. Designed and built by Earth Wrights, it includes a number of special features which allow children and young adults of all abilities and access needs to be able to play together.
The main castle-themed structure includes a gentle ramp up to the top which means all children can access the tower. Connecting the two towers is a wobbly clatter bridge, wide enough for wheelchairs, which not only ensures access for all but also provides excitement of movement (at height!) under your wheels or feet. One of the towers includes a climbing tree element to allow those wanting a more challenging route to clamber up the outside. And at ground level there are areas to enjoy including a secret den, tunnel, kitchen and dungeon. These feature tactile and high contrast elements to help give them sensory detail for those with reduced vision. With a tube slide, balance trail and trebuchet swing also on offer, the new play area offers many ways to go up, down and around meaning the fun can go on for longer, and take many different directions.
We are on the same grounds as GO Ape, or rest those feet from all that walking and take a Segways ride around the Forest.
The younger visitors will enjoy the Gruffalo Sculpture Trail and all the family can enjoy Disc Golf, there are so many activities to enjoy you will struggle to fit it in to just one day!.
